Types Of Light Sources
Light Sources can be categorized according to usage, to three main categories
- Functional Light sources , or Illumination Light Sources , that aim to provide good condition for better function in the environment.
- Lighting Sources , that aim to provide useful light for decorating directly non functional elements , for example Face of a building.
- Decorative Light sources, That aim to become Architecutral Element or Artwork, and have special aesthetical values
Functional Light Sources:
These light sources can be known as most useful light sources. A fixture in the Street, A Luminaire in Corridor and Stairs, most of Luminaires in Official, Residential , Commercial, Educational and Hospiial environments have these light sources installed. The goal of using Functional light sources is to have most proportion with Tasks being done in that space. say, Light needed to write, or light needed to cook. there are specific standards for these light sources. Generally this type of light sources have least elegance. We can refer to recessed Ceiling Luminaires , some of Light Projectors , Floodlights, Fluorescent-like wall lights as functional light sources.
Lighting Light Sources:
These Light source are being used to create or change color, create contrast , create accents, create and improve texture. They have sometimes specific optical system that cause they have focused light and precise projection. Body and look of these light sources have generally industrial form, and often are hidden from sight of visitors. we can refer to Spotlights, some of Floodlights and Grazing lights as example of Lighting light sources.
Decorative Light sources
In addition of doing task of Illumination and even Lighting, these lights sources can have role of ornamental element or ???. If the goal of using Lighting light sources was to provide light for accents or focal points, the goal of Decorative is to create Accent and Focal Points. These light sources have generally body and look compatible with Aesthetical principles and generally material and design of these lights sources have special roles in their production. we can refer to ornamental Pendants, Chandeliers, Decorative wall lights, Table Lights and … as example of Decorative light sources. Most of these Light sources are beautiful, even when they are turned off.
